2017 Gamay + 2017 Melon
The 2017 vintage has provided us with possibly the best material we’ve ever had to work with. As we’ve prepared all the wines for bottling our excitement has grown with every lot we’ve put together. The wines have all the ingredients for what passes the drinkability test: complexity, freshness, energy and balance. The rose released earlier this year was our first indicator of what awaited us as it was far and away the best one we’ve made. The next glimpse is provided by these two beauties.
The Willamette Valley Melon is from the first intentionally planted Melon de Bourgogne vines in Oregon. As befits all quality Muscadet, it was aged on the lees (a sexy word for dead yeast cells… Thank you, France) for eight months before bottling. Upon opening you are met with sea air and asian pear. From their it’s all fall fruit and brioche flavors on a blanket of crisp acidity.
The Gamay Willamette Valley is our touchstone wine. This is the wine we’ve been making the longest and the one that embodies what we are about. It’s sourced from three Willamette Valley vineyards and then made in the old Beaujolais method of semi carbonic maceration. What does that mean? It means that it’s fucking electric and juicy and cranberry crunchy. As Gamay should be, in our opinion. Just a gorgeous version of this wine.
